Free Practice Tests For TOEFL ? How To Find Them ...

Your capacity to utilize and comprehend English is crucial for your success at college. The TOEFL exam grades your college level English proficiency. More than 6,000 colleges, government organizations, and companies accept TOEFL test scores worldwide. The TOEFL Test serves a similar function to other standardized tests (such as SAT and ACT Exams) in that they are used by colleges and universities as a factor in admissions. Different institutions place varying degrees of significance on standardized tests, such as the TOEFL, and use them along with other things such as GPA, class rank, community service, recommendations and extracurricular activities.

The TOEFL test is given in two formats: the TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) and the TOEFL Paper-based Test (PBT). The TOEFL test format will likely be based upon your TOEFL test center. There are currently upwards of 4,300 TOEFL test locations worldwide.

The TOEFL iBT tests your English ability in four areas: reading, listening, speaking and writing. The TOEFL examination is four hours long and it focuses on words used in an educational, higher-learning environment.

Scores range from 0 to 120 for the TOEFL iBT. Each of the four sections (reading, listening, speaking and writing) are graded over a scale from 0 to 30. These sub scores are then added together for the overall score. The scoring is automatic for the sections on reading and listening. All of the six tasks within the speaking section has an opening score of 0 to 4 which is then modified to the 0 to 30 scale. Qualified examination graders will evaluate your answers based on how well you develop your theme and convey your response in English. Similarly, the two writing section tasks each have an initial score of 0 to 5 which is then modified to the 0 to 30 scale. The certified test graders measure your responses based on orderliness, grammar, vocabulary and general quality.

The TOEFL test scores on the Paper-based (PBT) exam range from 310 to 677. Scores will vary from 31 to 68 for both the listening comprehension and the structure/written expression portions. The reading comprehension portion is scored on a range of 31 to 67. The raw test scores for each section are then modified to the TOEFL examination scale range of 310 to 677.
