The Pub at Polaris |

The Pub, with a pint of Smithwick's - ? Michael Warth

Have you ever been to one of those ?themed? bars and said, ?man this is cool?? The Pub, at the Polaris Fashion Place Mall in Columbus, Ohio is just that kind of place.

Apple Store at Polaris in Columbus, Ohio - ? Michael Warth

I was there Saturday while shopping, and needed to hang out for about an hour while I waited on the Apple Store to complete a new purchase with upgrades. To kill the hour, my wife and I decided to grab a bite to eat at ?The Pub?.

Just a short walk from the Apple Store, The Pub is a British themed restaurant and bar. The staff is great, the decor is great, and the food and beer is awesome! There is a great selection of beer, both on tap and in bottles. The food is typical British pub fare with a twist, but still quite British.

We started with an appetizer (pretzels and cheese), a white chocolate martini (Lisa), and a pint of Smithwick?s (me), while we waited for our main course (we both opted for the Shepard?s Pie) to arrive.

The Main Course & Sampler Beer - ? Michael Warth

As you can see in the photo above, in addition to the Shepard?s Pie, I got a beer sampler featuring, Well?s Bombardier, Boddington?s Pub Ale, Fuller?s Extra Special Bitter, and Young?s Double Chocolate Stout. All of them were excellent, full-flavored English Draught beer, suitable for the meal at hand. My favorite beer was Young?s Double Chocolate Stout. For some reason, the taste and smell reminded me of my grandfather?s old smoking pipe.

Each beer in the sampler came in a small nonic glass (5 ounce serving), with a paper ?paddle? (wish it was a traditional wooden version). Honestly though, they offered beer from Ireland, Wales, and even domestic and European offerings as well. One can sample any one of the many beers the serve.

The menu is a bit overwhelming, but our server (Keith) was pretty patient and eager to help us out. Great service is a must in my opinion, and it looked to me that everyone at The Pub was being served well.

I?ll definitely be hitting this place up regularly. After the main course, we finished up with dessert, and a final drink before heading out to pick up my purchase from the Apple Store, and continue shopping. We were stuffed! Walking around the mall after a meal like this was painful to put it lightly, but it was all good.

If you get a chance to experience great draught beer of the UK here in the states, I would highly recommend it. As you already know, I hate the yellow fizzy crap sold in every beer aisle here, so finding The Pub made me quite happy.
