McDonald's Bagel Burgers Combine Two American Classics In France

Weird things can happen to American foods that travel to France. The case in two points? Bagels and McDonald's.

It's shockingly totally possible to find a good New York-style bagel in Paris -- but they don't serve them the way they do in America, with cream cheese and lox. Instead, they use them as the containers for big sandwiches full of cold cuts and cheese, sometimes pressed like a panini. And McDonald's is wildly popular in France, but the restaurants are significantly fancier there than they are in America.

This bizarre skew make it seem almost logical that when McDonald's France wanted to follow its smash hit McBaguette with a new limited-time offering, it would try putting a burger on a bagel. The results of that madcap experiment are visible on the French McDonald's website and available in McDonald's throughout France right now. Here's a screenshot of the former:

mcdonalds bagel burgers

As you can see, the Bagel Burgers come in three different varieties: "Cheese," "Red Onions" and "Bacon." They go by those English titles, not the French equivalents. The website helpfully translates those first two for non-Anglophone McD's fans as "fromage fondu" and "oignon rouge," but it seems that the word "bacon" is self-explanatory. They're grouped together under the strange moniker "Bagel Stories" -- also in English -- as if adding narrative to the mix would explain how burgers met such an unlikely partner.

We haven't heard anything about these burgers coming to America, but if we do, we'll be sure to let you know.

Broncos on verge of winning the West

Associated Press Sports

updated 5:09 p.m. ET Nov. 28, 2012

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated.)

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Before the season begins, almost every team puts these words near the top of a long list of goals: "Win the division."

That's all but a foregone conclusion in Denver, though when the Broncos wrap up the AFC West, there won't be much of a celebration. They didn't bring Peyton Manning to town just to win division titles and, given their six-game winning streak and the soft schedule ahead, this is a team that has every right to be thinking about bigger goals.

Says Broncos coach John Fox: "Our goals are still alive ... and that is, win our division and get into the tournament."

A win over the Buccaneers (6-5) on Sunday or a San Diego loss to Cincinnati will wrap up the division for Denver (8-3).

Wholesale Cell Phone Accessories For Resellers & Storefront Owners

Cell phones have really grown up from the bare bones telecommunication devices that they used to be a couple decades back, to the very advanced mobile technology we have today. The present generation of phones are capable of being used for multi-tasking and performing tasks that were unimagineable in the past. Plus cell phone accessories have advanced right along with the cellular phone that are sold by the various mobile phone accessory companies that take mobile communication, & entertainment to new unprecedented heights.

Accessories for brands like the Apple iphone, Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and LG are in such demand these days, research shows that the sales volume of accessories actually outstrips the sales of mobile phones nowadays. Plus accessories can be of various types. While some of them are manufactured for the business user, some cell phone accessories are mainly used by the upwardly mobile urban population as a lifestyle statement.

The sales of accessories have soared in recent years, because inexpensive accessories have become widely available. As a matter of fact, most cell phone users buy more than one accessory for a single phone. Some of the most in demand cell phone accessories are Bluetooth headsets, pouches, skins, data cables, memory cards, batteries, mp3 accessories and many more.

People have different attitudes towards accessories. While batteries and chargers are essential for everybody, fancy covers or keypads do not contribute in any way to enhance the handset?s usability. However the accessories like data cables and external memory aid the work of very busy professionals having a hectic schedule.

However one should buy wholesale cell phone accessories from a reliable and reputed company to ensure the quality and durability of the products. If one is not too sure about a wholesale company he can count on then a good idea would be to try a few suppliers out to see what they have to offer . Once you find a one stop shopping solution for high quality cellular phone accessories, develop a good working relationship with them to ensure the best pricing possible.

Atom smasher creates new kind of matter

Collisions between particles inside the Large Hadron Collider atom smasher have created what looks like a new form of matter.

The new kind of matter is called color-glass condensate, and is a liquidlike wave of gluons, which are elementary particles related to the strong force that sticks quarks together inside protons and neutrons (hence they are like "glue").

Scientists didn't expect this kind of matter would result from the type of particle collisions going on at the Large Hadron Collider at the time. However, it may explain some odd behavior seen inside the machine, which is a giant loop where particles race around underneath Switzerland and France.

When scientists sped up protons (one of the building blocks of atoms) and lead ions (lead atoms, which contain 82 protons each, stripped of their electrons), and crashed them into each other, the resulting explosions liquefied those particles and gave rise to new particles in their wake. Most of these new particles, as expected, fly off in all directions at close to the speed of light. [ Photos: The World's Largest Atom Smasher (LHC) ]

But recently scientists noticed that some pairs of particles were flying off from the collision point in correlated directions.

"Somehow they fly at the same direction even though it's not clear how they can communicate their direction with one another. That has surprised many people, including us," MIT physicist Gunther Roland, whose group led the analysis of the collision data along with Wei Li of Rice University, said in a statement.

A similar flight pattern is seen when two heavy particles, such as lead and lead, crash into each other. In this case, the collisions create what's called quark-gluon plasma ? a superhot soup of particles similar to the state of the universe just after the Big Bang. This soup can sweep particles in the same direction, explaining why their flight directions would be correlated.

But quark-gluon plasma isn't possible with lead-proton collisions, like the ones in the new study. Now researchers think a different state of matter, the color-glass condensate, may act in a similar way. The color-glass condensate's dense swarm of gluons may also sweep particles off in the same direction, suggested Brookhaven National Laboratory physicist Raju Venugopalan, who first predicted the substance, which may also be seen after proton-proton collisions.

The mechanism may depend on a weird quirk of particles called quantum entanglement. Two particles can be entangled so that they retain a connection even after they are separated, and an action on one reverberates on the other.

    3. Blue whales use ballet to trick their prey
    4. Atom smasher creates new kind of matter

Entangled gluons in the color-glass condensate could explain how particles flying away from the collision point might share information about their flight direction with each other, Venugopalan said.

The intriguing phenomenon was not expected to result from the LHC's run of proton-lead collisions, which was meant to serve as a reference point for comparison to other types of collisions.

"You don't expect quark-gluon plasma effects" with lead-proton collisions, Roland said. "It was supposed to be sort of a reference run ? a run in which you can study background effects and then subtract them from the effects that you see in lead-lead collisions."

The findings will be detailed in an upcoming issue of the journal Physical Review B.

Arafat's remains exhumed for poison tests

RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - Forensic experts took samples from Yasser Arafat's buried corpse in the West Bank on Tuesday, trying to determine if he was murdered by Israeli agents using the hard-to-trace radioactive poison, Polonium.

Palestinians witnessed the funeral of their hero and longtime leader eight years ago, but conspiracy theories surrounding his death have never been laid to rest.

Many are convinced their icon was the victim of a cowardly assassination, and may stay convinced whatever the outcome of this autopsy. But some in the city of Ramallah where he lies deplored the exhumation.

"This is wrong. After all this time, today they suddenly want to find out the truth?" said construction worker Ahmad Yousef, 31, who stopped to watch the disinterment, carried out behind a wall of blue plastic near the Palestinian presidency headquarters.

"They should have done it eight years ago," he said.

French magistrates in August opened a murder inquiry into Arafat's death in Paris in 2004 after a Swiss institute said it had discovered high levels of polonium on clothing of his which was supplied by his widow, Suha, for a television documentary.

"Samples will be taken according to a very strict protocol and these samples will be analyzed," said Darcy Christen, spokesman for Lausanne University Hospital in Switzerland that carried out the original tests on Arafat's clothes.

"In order to do these analyses, to check, cross-check and double cross-check, it will take several months and I don't think we'll have anything tangible available before March or April next year," he added.

Arafat was always a freedom fighter to Palestinians but a terrorist to Israelis first, and a partner for peace only later. He led the bid for a Palestinian state through years of war and peacemaking, then died in a French hospital aged 75 after a short, mysterious illness.

No autopsy was carried out at the time, at the request of Suha, and French doctors who treated him said they were unable to determine the cause of death.

But allegations of foul play immediately surfaced, and many Palestinians pointed the finger at Israel, which confined Arafat to his West Bank headquarters in Ramallah for the final two and a half years of his life after a Palestinian uprising erupted.

Israel denies murdering him. Its leader at the time, Ariel Sharon, now lies in a coma from which he is expected never to awake. Israel invited the Palestinian leadership to release all Arafat's medical records, which were never made public following his death and still have not been opened.

Polonium, apparently ingested with food, was found to have caused the death of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko in London in 2006. But some experts have questioned whether Arafat could have died in this way, pointing to a brief recovery during his illness that they said was not consistent with radioactive poisoning. They also noted he did not lose all his hair.

Eight years is considered the limit to detect any traces of the fast-decaying polonium and Lausanne hospital questioned in August if it would be worth seeking any samples, if access to Arafat's body was delayed as late as "October or November."

Not all of Arafat's family agreed to the exhumation, and his wife Suha chose not to attend the operation she had prompted.

Working in parallel with the forensic team, French magistrates were in Ramallah this week to ask if members of Arafat's inner circle might be able to shed light on his death.

One source told Reuters the French had a list of 60 questions, and had questioned one man for five hours.

Many Palestinians acknowledge that a Palestinian would almost certainly have had to administer any poison, wittingly or unwittingly.

HIV Vaccine Under Study May Last A Lifetime

A genetically-engineered HIV vaccine under study by Texas researchers works in a novel way.

It targets specific cells exactly where the virus enters the body, stimulating them to generate an immune response so the virus can't take hold.

If the strategy bears out, the vaccine will be a single dose and last a lifetime, says Marie-Claire Gauduin, PhD, assistant scientist at Texas Biomedical Research Institute.

''Many other HIV vaccines try to block the infection when the virus is already in," she says. ?"Here we try not to be infected to begin with," Gauduin tells Take Part.

RELATED:?Breakthrough: Early HIV Treatment Virtually Erases Risk of Passing Virus On

About 33 million people worldwide are living with? HIV/AIDS, according to estimates by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS. ?Most do not know it. The new vaccine, if perfected, could be given to children at puberty to stem this toll, Gauduin says.

Most new cases of HIV infections worldwide are transmitted by sexual intercourse through outer layers of cells known as epithelial cells. These line the surfaces of structures throughout the body.

The target of the new vaccine is the mucosal layers of the epithelium in the genital and rectal areas, where the virus ?typically enters.

"We are targeting the basal layer, the lower layer of epithelial stem cells," she says. These stem cells divide and differentiate into specialized cell types.

The vaccine stays put in the epithelial stem cells, she says. Next, antigens that recognize the virus are produced. ?"These antigens stimulate your immune response to fight the virus," she says.

"The virus will be recognized at the site of entry," she says. "The virus won't get to the blood stream is the hope."

What makes it long lasting, she says, is the initial targeting of the stem cells. "Once the epithelial stem cell gets the message to stimulate your immune response, it will do so constantly,'' she says, so the virus will be recognized long term.

Gauduin and her colleagues recently filed for a patent on the approach.

The vaccine, of course, is years from clinical practice, she says. "We have a lot of work to do," she tells Take Part.?Primate studies may start in early 2013. Human trials may begin as early as 2015.

Currently, other HIV vaccine approaches can't deliver the antibody production for long periods of time. So the protection is weak and temporary, Gauduin says.

"It looks very interesting, certainly a great idea," say Yegor Voronin, PhD, science officer for Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise, an alliance devoted to developing a preventive HIV vaccine.

RELATED:?FDA Approves Truvada as First HIV Prevention Drug

The approach makes sense to scientists like him. "Epithelial cells don't live very long,'' he says. "They are continuously shed off. They are trying to affect the stem cells that produce epithelial cells. As the stem cells differentiate into epithelial cells, that is when they start producing the antigen."

"It's very early stages," he says. "It's an excellent idea. Whether it will work--who knows?"

Many other attempts have not panned out, he says.

One important as-yet unanswered question, he says, is whether the vaccine could cause some sort of health problem ''and you have the antigen being expressed continuously." He asks: "How are you going to turn that off?"

Much safety testing, among other research, will be needed, he says.

As with other vaccines under development, he says a wait-and-see stance is best. "At this point, it's just way too early to tell."

Scottville considers options for baseball's future ...

SCOTTVILLE ? The City of Scottville is taking a serious look at the future of its youth recreation baseball program. During its last meeting, the city?s Parks and Recreation Board decided that the city can no longer afford to operate the program at a loss.

?The board would like to see a group of parents step up and form an organization similar to the American Youth Soccer Organization that runs the fall and spring soccer leagues at MacPhail Field,? City Manager Amy Williams said.

For the past 10 years, the city has been operating the recreation program. Prior to that, the city and Mason County Central Schools ran the program jointly, with most of the administration and equipment costs going through the school.

?We just can no longer afford to take a loss on this program,? Williams said. ?Baseball is the only recreation program the city runs and last year we took an $11,000 loss on it, which does not even include administrative costs, which are around $5,000.? Williams said the Parks and Recreation board has been turn about this decision for the past three years. ?We have tried to keep it going each year for the kids,? she said, ?but we just can?t afford to keep taking the loss.?

The baseball program, which includes t-ball, involved 366 kids this year. Of those kids, Williams estimated that only about 10 percent were actual residents in the city of Scottville. Basically, the tax payers of the city of Scottville are offsetting the program for children who do not live in the city and whose parents do not pay property taxes in the city.

Williams said when the city first took over the program it received a lot more funding. The city itself also had more revenue and staff. It even had a full-time recreation director at one time.

?We used to get United Way funding of at least $6,000 per year,? she said. ?They changed the funding program and we no longer receive that money. Plus, in the past, Scottville area businesses would sponsor the teams. But, with the loss of businesses and the current economy, they cannot afford the sponsorships. Those sponsorships would cover the uniforms and even some equipment.?

Adult recreation softball leagues used to also help offset the costs, but those leagues no longer contribute. The city would also get revenue from the recreation wrestling program until the school took that program back over.

The participation fee is currently $30, which includes $5 for each player?s t-shirt. Williams said the $25 balance does not even come close to making the program solvent.

?AYSO charges $45 per participant or if there are two or more in the same family, they charge $40.?

Williams said Scottville provides all the equipment for the players, except the glove. ?We do get people who donate gloves to the program, so if there is a child who needs a glove we will provide it,? she said.

Comparatively, AYSO has all volunteers help and its officiators don?t get paid. The players have to purchase all their equipment, most of which is required such as pads, shoes and certain socks. ?They also do fund raising and the volunteers help with everything,? Williams said.

The city pays umpires $7.50 per hour with a two hour minimum. This year, umpires cost $1,520. Other expenses the city had, which were directly related to baseball were: $1,277 in equipment, $1,896 in field maintenance, $2,304 in t-shirts (t-shirts cost $6 each, though the city only charges $5), $600 field rental to Custer Recreation. The city also had other expenses as well (see related list).

?My staff can barely keep up with the day to day operations of running the city,? Williams said. ?I am doing the work of the city manager and treasurer and the other two office staff perform the duties of the clerk and administration of the police department and Department of Public Works.?

Baseball is the only local recreation sport overseen by the city. Football, wrestling and soccer are all private organizations.

Williams said she has not spoken with surrounding townships but is doubtful they would be willing to help offset the costs of the program.

The parks and recreation committee is willing to oversee the program for one more year as long as a group of parents step up and offer to work at transitioning the program to a private organization, Williams said.

She said the Parks and Recreation board meets the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at city hall, but is not scheduled to meet again until February. She said if there is enough interest, the board would be willing to hold a January meeting to get advise on how to transition.

The parks and recreation board is a 7-member board made up of citizens from Scottville and the surrounding area. Currently there are two openings on the board. Williams said another way someone could provide feedback is to volunteer to serve on the board.

Reference-and-Education Red Ribbon Week Time to Celebrate ...

ge the student Reference-and-Education Red Ribbon Week Time to Celebrate Freedom 20th September 2007 So many times when we celebrate Red Ribbon Week we only think about not taking drugs. But knitwear in general is rarely found in perfect condition, and will usually require some repairs, moncler sale and special care when storing and cleaning. If youe buying vintage ladies cardigans for the first time, here are some tips

for repairs and care that you can do yourself. It always best to avoid the expense of a specialist tailor if possible, and much more satisfying to restore an item to its original beauty without outside help. And it surprising easy to care

for most vintage clothes, including knitwear, as long as you are prepared to do a little by hand. If youe fallen in love with, and bought, a cardigan that worn or even holed, hopefully youl have looked at the necessary repairs before hand over your cash, and got yourself a good price that takes your valuable time into account. Depending on the kind of yarn the clothing is made from, you may be able to find a close match and darn through the existing yarn to make a relatively invisible mend. If the damaged area is relatively unobtrusive, such as under the arm, where a lot of wear occurs, your repairs won be on show for close scrutiny anyway. If your item has a hole or has already been patched, the best alternative may be to simply cover up the area. Consider an appliqu?patch on shoulders or front panels, for example. If you pick the patch carefully, you can sometimes make it look as though it was part of the original design. Or, if the damage is lower down on the front, you could add a patch pocket or two in fabric or lace, or even knit a patch yourself in a contrasting or coordinating colour, to create a truly unique, yet still vintage piece. With a worn hem, collars, or cuffs, lace may again be your saving grace. A narrow lace edging stitched through the existing knitwear, and backed with

SpaceX founder Musk eyes 'self-sustaining' Mars civilization

In Musk's vision, the ambitious Mars settlement program would start with a pioneering group of fewer than 10 people, who would journey to the Red Planet aboard a huge reusable rocket powered by liquid oxygen and methane.

By Rob Coppinger,? / November 26, 2012

This still from a SpaceX mission concept video shows a Dragon space capsule landing on the surface of Mars. SpaceX's Dragon is a privately built space capsule to carry unmanned payloads, and eventually astronauts, into space.

Elon Musk, the billionaire founder and CEO of the private spaceflight company SpaceX, wants to help establish a Mars colony of up to 80,000 people by ferrying explorers to the Red Planet for perhaps $500,000 a trip.

In Musk's vision, the ambitious?Mars settlement?program would start with a pioneering group of fewer than 10 people, who would journey to the Red Planet aboard a huge reusable rocket powered by liquid oxygen and methane.

"At?Mars, you can start a self-sustaining civilization and grow it into something really big," Musk told an audience at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London on Friday (Nov. 16). Musk was there to talk about his business plans, and to receive the Society?s gold medal for his contribution to the commercialization of space.

Mars pioneers

Accompanying the founders of the new?Mars colony?would be large amounts of equipment, including machines to produce fertilizer, methane and oxygen from Mars? atmospheric nitrogen and carbon dioxide and the planet's subsurface water ice.

The Red Planet pioneers would also take construction materials to build transparent domes, which when pressurized with Mars? atmospheric CO2 could grow Earth crops in Martian soil. As the Mars colony became more self sufficient, the big rocket would start to transport more people and fewer supplies and equipment. [Future Visions of Human Spaceflight]

Musk?s architecture for this human Mars exploration effort does not employ cyclers, reusable spacecraft that would travel back and forth constantly between the Red Planet and Earth ? at least not at first

"Probably not a Mars cycler; the thing with the cyclers is, you need a lot of them," Musk told "You have to have propellant to keep things aligned as [Mars and Earth?s] orbits aren?t [always] in the same plane. In the beginning you won?t have cyclers."

Musk also ruled out SpaceX's?Dragon capsule, which the company is developing to ferry astronauts to and from low-Earth orbit, as the spacecraft that would land colonists on the Red Planet. When asked by what vehicle would be used, he said, "I think you just land the entire thing."

Asked if the "entire thing" is the huge new?reusable rocket?? which is rumored to bear the acronymic name MCT, short for Mass Cargo Transport or Mars Colony Transport ? Musk said, "Maybe."

Musk has been thinking about what his colonist-carrying spacecraft would need, whatever it ends up being. He reckons the oxygen concentration inside should be 30 to 40 percent, and he envisions using the spacecraft?s liquid water store as a barrier between the Mars pioneers and the sun.

A $500,000 ticket

Musk?s $500,000 ticket price for a Mars trip was derived from what he thinks is affordable.

"The ticket price needs to be low enough that most people in advanced countries, in their mid-forties or something like that, could put together enough money to make the trip," he said, comparing the purchase to buying a house in California. [Photos: The First Space Tourists]

He also estimated that of the eight billion humans that will be living on Earth by the time the colony is possible, perhaps one in 100,000 would be prepared to go. That equates to potentially 80,000 migrants.

Musk figures the colony program ? which he wants to be a collaboration between government and private enterprise ? would end up costing about $36 billion. He arrived at that number by estimating that a colony that costs 0.25 percent or 0.5 percent of a nation?s gross domestic product (GDP) would be considered acceptable.

The United States' GDP in 2010 was $14.5 trillion; 0.25 percent of $14.5 trillion is $36 billion. If all 80,000 colonists paid $500,000 per seat for their Mars trip, $40 billion would be raised.

"Some money has to be spent on establishing a base on Mars. It?s about getting the basic fundamentals in place," Musk said. "That was true of the English colonies [in the Americas]; it took a significant expense to get things started. But once there are regular Mars flights, you can get the cost down to half a million dollars for someone to move to Mars. Then I think there are enough people who would buy that to have it be a reasonable business case."

The big reusable rocket

The fully reusable rocket that Musk wants to take colonists to Mars is an evolution of SpaceX's Falcon 9 booster, which launches Dragon.

"It?s going to be much bigger [than Falcon 9], but I don?t think we?re quite ready to state the payload. We?ll speak about that next year," Musk said, emphasizing that only fully reusable rockets and spacecraft would keep the ticket price for Mars migration as low as $500,000.

SpaceX is already testing what Musk calls a next-generation, reusable Falcon 9 rocket that can take off vertically and land vertically. The prototype,?called Grasshopper, is a Falcon 9 first stage with landing legs.

Grasshoper has made two short flights. The first was on Sept. 21 and reached a height of 6 feet (2 meters); the second test, on Nov. 1, was to a height of 17.7 feet (5.4 m). A planned milestone for the Grasshopper project is to reach an altitude of 100 feet (30 m). [Grasshopper Rocket's 2-Story Test Flight (Video)]

"Over the next few months, we?ll gradually increase the altitude and speed," Musk said. "I do think there probably will be some craters along the way; we?ll be very lucky if there are no craters. Vertical landing is an extremely important breakthrough ? extreme, rapid reusability. It?s as close to aircraft-like dispatch capability as one can achieve."

Musk wants to have a reusable Falcon 9 first stage, which uses Grasshopper technology, come back from orbit in "the next year or two." He then wants to use this vertical-landing technology for Falcon 9?s upper stage.

Musk hopes to have a fully reusable version of Falcon 9 in five or six years, but he acknowledged that those could be "famous last words."

A rocket stepping stone

Another?stepping stone toward the planned reusable Mars rocket is SpaceX?s?Falcon Heavy launcher. With a first flight planned for next year from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, the Heavy is a Falcon 9 that has two Falcon 9 first stages bolted on either side.

Musk expects the Falcon Heavy to launch from Florida's Cape Canaveral eventually. This triple-first-stage rocket will be able to put 116,600 pounds (53,000 kilograms) into a 124-mile (200 kilometers) low-Earth orbit. But the Falcon Heavy is still much smaller than Musk?s fully reusable Mars rocket, which will also employ a new engine.

While Musk declines to state what the Mars rocket?s payload capability will be, he does say it will use a new staged combustion cycle engine called Raptor. The cycle involves two steps. Propellant ? the fuel and oxidizer ? is ignited in pre-burners to produce hot high-pressure gases that help pump propellant into the engine?s combustion chamber. The hot gases are then directed into the same chamber to aid in the combustion of the propellants.

Because Raptor is a staged combustion engine ? like the main engines of NASA's now-retired?space shuttle fleet?? it is expected to be far more efficient than the open-cycle Merlin engines used by the Falcon 9.

While the Falcon 9?s engines use liquid oxygen (LOX) and kerosene, Raptor will use LOX and methane. Musk explained that "the energy cost of methane is the lowest, and it has a slight ISP [specific impulse] advantage over kerosene and doesn?t have any of the bad aspects of hydrogen." (Hydrogen is difficult to store at cryogenic temperatures, makes metal brittle and is very flammable.)

Lebanese army: 5 Syrians arrested with explosives

BEIRUT (AP) ? Lebanese soldiers raided an apartment in the country's south on Saturday and arrested five Syrian nationals for possession of explosives, the army said, the latest incident fanning fears that Syria's civil war is spilling across the border.

The arrests came on the eve of Ashoura, the annual Shiite commemoration of the 7th-century death of Imam Hussein, the Prophet Muhammad's grandson. Shiite processions ? one of which will take place in Nabatiyeh where the arrests occurred ? have been attacked by Sunni extremists in Iraq and other countries.

Lebanese media reports said the suspects planned to use the explosives to attack Shiite mourners marking Ashoura Sunday. An army spokesman declined comment to The Associated Press, pending judicial investigations.

Lebanon and Syria share a complex web of political and sectarian ties and rivalries which are easily enflamed. Lebanon, a country plagued by decades of strife, has been on edge since the uprising in Syria against President Bashar Assad began in March 2011, with deadly clashes between pro and anti- Assad Lebanese groups erupting on several occasions.

Many among Lebanon's Sunni Muslims have backed Syria's mainly Sunni rebels, in which radical Islamists have become increasingly active. Lebanese Shiite Muslims and the militant group Hezbollah have tended to back Assad, whose tiny Alawite sect is an offshoot of Shiite Islam.

In this latest incident, an army statement said the five Syrians were arrested in the southern market town of Nabatiyeh following a tip that they were involved in "suspicious security activity." Army personnel seized 450 grams (one pound) of explosives, a detonator, and ammunition for a 160 mm mortar with Hebrew writing on it, the statement said.

Last month, Lebanon plunged into several days of violence after the country's intelligence chief, Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan was assassinated in a Beirut car bomb.

Al-Hassan was a powerful opponent of Syria's influence in Lebanon and many here blamed his killing on Syria.

At least 112 killed as fire raced through Bangladesh garment factory

DHAKA, Bangladesh - At least 112 people were killed in a fire that raced through a multi-story garment factory just outside of Bangladesh's capital, an official said Sunday.

The blaze broke out at the seven-story factory operated by Tazreen Fashions late Saturday. By Sunday morning, firefighters had recovered 100 bodies, fire department Operations Director Maj. Mohammad Mahbub told The Associated Press.

He said another 12 people who had suffered injuries after jumping from the building to escape the fire later died at hospitals. The death toll could rise as the search for victims was continuing, he said.

Local media reported that up to 124 people were killed in the fire. The cause of the blaze was not immediately clear, and authorities have ordered an investigation.

Bangladesh has some 4,000 garment factories, many without proper safety measures. The country annually earns about $20 billion from exports of garment products, mainly to the United States and Europe.

Relatives of the factory workers were frantically looking for their loved ones. Sabina Yasmine said she saw the body of her daughter-in-law, who died in the fire, but had no trace of her son, who also worked at the factory.

"Oh, Allah, where's my soul? Where's my son?" wailed Yasmine, who works at another factory in the area. "I want the factory owner to be hanged. For him, many have died, many have gone."

Mahbub said firefighters recovered 69 bodies from the second floor of the factory alone. He said most of the victims had been trapped inside the factory, located just outside of Dhaka, with no emergency exits leading outside the building.

Many workers who had taken shelter on the roof of the factory were rescued, but firefighters were unable to save those who were trapped inside, Mahbub said.

He said the fire broke out on the ground floor, which was used as a warehouse, and spread quickly to the upper floors.

"The factory had three staircases, and all of them were down through the ground floor," Mahbub said. "So the workers could not come out when the fire engulfed the building."

"Had there been at least one emergency exit through outside the factory, the casualties would have been much lower," he said.

Many of the victims were burned beyond recognition. The recovered bodies were kept in rows on the premise of a nearby school.

Army soldiers and paramilitary border guards were deployed to help police keep the situation under control as thousands of onlookers and anxious relatives of the factory workers gathered at the scene, Mahbub said. He would not say how many people were still missing.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed shock at the loss of so many lives in the blaze and asked authorities to conduct thorough search-and-rescue operations.

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association said it would stand by the victims' families.

Bangladesh's garment factories make clothes for brands including Wal-Mart, JC Penney, H&M, Marks & Spencer, Carrefour and Tesco.

Separately, a flyover under construction fell onto a busy market, leaving at least 14 people dead including three construction workers in southeastern city of Chittagong, an official said Sunday.

Local fire official Abdul Mannan said the concrete structure collapsed on Saturday night, and authorities recovered the bodies by Sunday morning from under the debris in the second-largest city after Dhaka.

Multi-level Marketing Tips That Can Work For You! | Jim McGilvary's ...

Mistakes Are Costing You! Learn To Stop?Making ALL 189 Of Them!

Struggling With WordPress? 100+ Step-By-Step Videos Now Available!

Posted by Administrator on Nov 23, 2012 in Uncategorized | Comments Off

If you would like to be successful, it will be necessary for you to learn all that you can about multi-level marketing. The advice in the following article is designed to help you develop a network marketing plan that will effectively reach your target market.

Don?t hand any money over to a multi-level marketing company until you research the Better Business Bureau?s records of the company. Even though there are an abundant amount of real companies that exist, many scams are also out there. You must be confident in an opportunity before you should invest in it. If you want to make sure any potential network is credible, then check their Better Business Burea rating first.

Keep face-to-face meetings with your network leads brief; never spend more than three-quarters of an hour with them. This gives off the impression to potential customers that you are a busy and successful businessperson.

TIP! Make use of video marketing to get more potential customers to your distributor website. Having a video means you can put out a content-rich campaign, and it doesn?t cost you any more money than to host the video.

You should apply social networking as a part of your particular affiliate marketing strategy. Create separate groups for different product niches, and focus on enhancing customer relationships. Create a page for each affiliate program you?re a part of on the various social networking websites.

In multilevel marketing, you are at constant competition with others to sign as many people as possible. To be sure you do not do this, think instead of how to work to help others and yourself.

TIP! Many people have the mistaken notion that quantity trumps quality when it comes to network marketing. In reality, quality always wins.

You might be surprised at the number of people who are more than happy to help you, by sharing what they have experienced in the world of MLM, so pay attention. One great avenue for doing this is listening to network marketing podcasts. Listen to different ones to find the best one available.

You can try designing your site in a how-to format. Giving step-by-step how-tos is a proven way to increase the traffic to your site, and increases the amount of time visitors will spend on your site. These both increase your chance of getting new members and increasing your ad revenue.

Connect with others online in forums or chat rooms so that you can take advantage of their expertise and avoid making the same mistakes they made. Discussion boards often offer a healthy mix of experienced network marketers and amateurs who are in a position similar to your own. Forums are great places to make a business connection, so always have a major online presence.

TIP! A good customer database is crucial to the success of any network marketing campaign. Regardless of whether you buy the list or use comments from your site, you should have a very large list if you want to grow your profits.

A great tip for successful MLM is to join online forums and participate. These forums are perfect for connecting with others, and picking up useful advice. Search for a forum which matches the business you?re in or is just generally about MLM, and spend some time there daily learning all you can.

Make sure meetings are less than an hour. You don?t want potential partners to worry about the time investment the business requires.

Mimic successful characteristics that you see in others when you embark on your network marketing career. This helps you to act and think in the same ways these distributors run their business, which helps you to achieve greater success.

TIP! Watch your body language when speaking to a lead; nodding is good, and shaking your head is negative. Ensure that your body language is positive.

You should always make time for friends and family so that you don?t stress out, and to make sure that you do not damage your personal relationships. Starting up a business can mean long hours at the office, but they tend to ease up once you get a firm handle on things.

If you try to take shortcuts with network marketing, you could wind up making a mistake that will really cost you. Cutting corners might seem to save you time or money now, but the truth is that taking the time to work hard is the only way you will achieve long-term success. When quality exists, results will come.

As previously stated, success in network marketing depends on knowledge and the use of effective strategies and techniques. If you know how to do multi-level marketing like a pro, then your business will take off. If you follow the guidelines that you have just read, you can spread the message effectively, and in only a matter of time your business will be booming.

TIP! Before you commit to a network marketing opportunity, make sure you know how you will be paid for your efforts. Look for possibilities of multiple income or residual income with higher overall returns.

China's latest supermodel? A 72-year-old farmer

A Chinese grandfather is proving love knows no bounds as he models looks to promote his granddaughter's clothing store for teens. The photos went viral after they were posted on the Internet.

By Liu Yanzhou, NBC News

Updated at 9:43 a.m. ET: BEIJING -- ?Liu Qianping is a retired farmer from China's Hunan province. But after jokingly modeling a range of ladies' wear, the 72-year-old has become an online sensation.

"I never dreamed all this. I used to be a farmer, but now, after coming to the big city, I have become famous,? Liu told NBC News.

Daily sales for the outlet he models for, Yecoo Fashion Store, have jumped from an average $160-a-day in May to more than $1,100. Altogether, Yecoo's site has recorded 250,000 visits.? China?s Twitter-like social networking site Weibo has recorded more than 9.6 million searches for ?granddad,? how Liu is now known by?millions.

It all started with Lv Ting, Liu?s granddaughter.? Armed with lots of enthusiasm but no experience, the 24-year-old and four friends set-up Yecoo out of a tiny apartment in Guangzhou, the capital of the booming southern province of Guangdong, in May.

Lv borrowed 160,000 Renminbi ($25,000) from her brother as security deposit to register her store on Taobao, China's leading online shopping site.

At first her sister-in-law modeled the clothes -- models are expensive in Guangzhou ? and Lv served as photographer. However, in the first five months, with only several items sold per day, they could barely make ends meet.

"It wasn't smooth sailing at all in the beginning," Lv said.

Liu goes "Gangnam Style," left, and in his regular clothes, right.

Then Taobao announced a big discount ahead of November 11? -- China's Bachelors' Day -- ?for all its shops. Lu and friends decided to splash out on a new collection for the big day.

Coincidentally, Lv's grandfather came to visit her during this time. As a joke, Liu tried on some of the merchandise.

"I saw they bought lots of new colorful clothes, and so I started trying out a new cloak coat, because it was cool," Liu told NBC News.

Lv and her colleagues took pictures, and sent them to friends for a laugh. To their surprise, the feedback was positive, and soon decided that the skinny former farmer was the supermodel they have been looking for.

Liu Qianping, 72, started modeling clothes from his granddaughter's online shop as a joke, but he has become an online sensation.

The fashion photos went viral on Weibo, and Taobao posted them on their cover page to attract sales.

But none of this has gone to Liu?s head.

"Besides cleaning up the apartment for my little granddaughter every day, I get interviewed by many people. And I still enjoy playing poker online as usual," he said.

When asked if he was embarrassed about the pictures, he said no.?

"I will definitely share these photos with [my friends] when I go back to Hunan during Spring Festival!"

Courtesy of Lv Ting

Liu takes his role as supermodel lightly -- and still finds time to clean his granddaughter's apartment.

Most important to Liu was that he had been helpful to Lv.

?Most special is that I could do something for my little granddaughter. I feel fulfilled," he said.
